Synesthesia is a neurological condition that causes the brain to process data in the form of several senses at once. For example, a person with synesthesia may hear sounds while also seeing them as colorful swirls (Live Science, 2017).

Strategy

Utilizing connection between feelings and music by turning it into a visual experience for listeners.

Digital billboard (for the artist)

Digital billboards throughout NYC will have a photo of an artist with a variety of color and patterns radiating from them. The main screen will illustrate the mood of the song/album while the second screen will have the feelings of the song/album.

I posted a survey with questions such as, “What colors/shapes/patterns do you associate with the album Manic by Halsey?” and “What emotions do you associate with the song Adore You by Harry Styles?” Videos below will show some of the responses I received.

Additional advertising to be seen in NYC. Pandora will collect data at different times of the day to announce how the city is feeling based on the type of music the population was listening to. To be updated hourly.

29 Rooms

29Rooms is an immersive world of cause, culture, and creativity brought to you by the makers behind Refinery29. Different companies are able to rent and create a room of their own. Pandora will rent out a room for the Feeling Pandora campaign and will allow people to draw shapes and patterns on a tablet while listening to a song and then watch their creation come to life on a large wall perfect for photo ops.
